First, a note about my collecting style. This goes for baseball, basketball, and hockey. I actually like to 'play' with my cards. I've always enjoyed this, ever since I was a kid. Open a couple packs of cards and pretend that's my team, I make a lineup and batting order, starting 5 on the court, hockey lines, etc. I still do this, but what I like to do now is put together 'play sets'. So for instance I am working on a mid to late 70's hockey play set which includes most anyone who played during that era. I deal them out and make teams. So in many cases, rather than trying to put together a complete set from a given year/brand, I try to put together a play set that includes one of each player from a set of years. As such, beat up cards are best (and most affordable!), and it's often a good starting point to finish or mostly finish one specific year, and then build out from there with cards from years near that.

HOCKEY
Vintage Wantlist: My ultimate goal is to collect 1 base card of each player from the 50's or so to now, even if it's a beater. For instance I'll never afford a Gordie rookie, but a Gordie base card from the 70's is within reason. Also would like to put together a 60's original 6 'master set' so to speak (one card of each player, any year in the original 6 era). Probably my best bet here is a lot of beat up cards.

RC Wants: At my core I am a rookie card collector. When I first got back into collecting 5 or 6 years ago, my initial goal was to get 1 rookie card of each key rookie from the 1980's baseball. Now I'm moving back to include vintage rookies as well, all sports. The earlier the cards are, the more likely I am actually looking for rough copies so they're more realistic to obtain. IE I'm not planning to get a Seaver or Clemente (2 of my personal favorites) rookie card unless they have serious flaws.

First, a note about my collecting style. This goes for baseball, basketball, and hockey. I actually like to 'play' with my cards. I've always enjoyed this, ever since I was a kid. Open a couple packs of cards and pretend that's my team, I make a lineup and batting order, starting 5 on the court, hockey lines, etc. I still do this, but what I like to do now is put together 'play sets'. So for instance I am working on a mid to late 70's hockey play set which includes most anyone who played during that era. I deal them out and make teams. So in many cases, rather than trying to put together a complete set from a given year/brand, I try to put together a play set that includes one of each player from a set of years. As such, beat up cards are best (and most affordable!), and it's often a good starting point to finish or mostly finish one specific year, and then build out from there with cards from years near that.

Vintage Wantlist: My ultimate goal is to collect 1 base card of each player from the 50's or so to now, even if it's a beater. For instance I'll never afford a Gordie rookie, but a Gordie base card from the 70's is within reason. Also would like to put together a 60's original 6 'master set' so to speak (one card of each player, any year in the original 6 era). Probably my best bet here is a lot of beat up cards.
